NQT training sessions

There will be reading and gap tasks to accompany training.

 

   1.  Pedagogy – 4th October 2017

This will take place at Askwith Primary school where NQTs will be able to:

  • Bring their personal targets for discussion and explore how this session can help them to meet these,
  • discuss their understanding of pedagogy,
  • explore the evidence from research,
  • observe practice in the classroom,
  • unpick what they have seen and why these techniques are used,
  • reflect on what they can bring into their own classroom and design of personal action plans.
   

 2.  Assessment For Learning(AFL) 1 – 13th November 2017

NQTs should bring their school’s marking and feedback policy.  This session will take place at Askwith Primary School where NQTs will be able to:

  • Reflect on personal targets and what they need to meet these and improve their practice – how can this session help NQTs with this?
  • Discuss what is AFL and why should they use these techniques,
  • How AfL ties in with questioning, active learning, planning and subject knowledge,
  • Explore the evidence from research,
  • Observe practice in the classroom,
  • Unpick what techniques they have seen and what difference they make to the pupils progress,
  • What makes an effective learning environment – consider displays,
  • Reflect on what NQTs can bring into their own classrooms and update personal action plans.

 3. Keeping children safe, establishing a culture – 16th January 2018

This session will take place at Harrogate Cricket Club and will explore:

  • Safeguarding – what is it and what are our responsibilities,
  • The importance of confidentiality and protocols,
  • Learning barriers in the classroom,
  • Behaviour management - unpicking the need that underlies the behaviour,
  • How to respond to disruptive behaviour without exacerbating it,
  • Managing Conflict,
  • Child Protection terminology and who’s who in social services – what support is available?

This session will also include:

  • Reflect on personal targets and how NQTs are meeting these,
  • Reflect on what NQTs can bring into their own classrooms from this session and update personal action plans.

 4.  Assessment For Learning(AFL) 2 – 7th  March 2018

This session will be held at Harrogate Cricket Club and will be an opportunity to dig deeper into AFL techniques to explore the NQTs knowledge and practice and reflect on what they have used.  The session will include:

  • Catch up on how use of AFL techniques have changed in since the last session and what impact this has had on the pupils learning,
  • NQTs should bring in photographic examples of their displays and …
  • Look deeper into what the evidence says,
  • Observe practice in the classroom,
  • Unpick techniques that have been observed, why they are used and they impact they might have on pupil progress.

This session will also include:

  • Reflect on personal targets and how NQTs are meeting these,
  • Reflect on what NQTs can bring into their own classrooms from this session and update personal action plans. 

 5.  Maths – 24th April 2018

This session will be held at Harrogate Cricket Club and will include an opportunity to dig deeper into the current understanding of mastery maths.  For this session NQTs should bring their school calculation policy.  The session will include:

  • Catch up on maths practice in the classroom from EY to Year 6 for the NQTs.
  • Explore NQTs understanding of mastery maths.
  • What does the evidence say?
  • Expectations of pupils.
  • Techniques and how you can use resources to deepen pupil learning.
  • Practical resources and useful links.

This session will also include:

  • Reflect on personal targets and how NQTs are meeting these.
  • Reflect on what NQTs can bring into their own classrooms from this session and update personal action plans.
  • Developing as a middle leader.
  • Performance management.
  • Subject leadership and what this could mean for you.
  • Work/life balance and strategies for maintaining a sustainable commitment and managing workload.

 6.  SEND – 11th June 2018

This session will look at dyslexia, autism and supporting pupils in the classroom with SEND

  • SEND Code of practice.
  • How you can adapt your teaching and displays for dyslexia and autism.
  • What paperwork may be required to support a child with SEND.
  • Where to go for help – useful contacts and links and how the system work.

This session will also include:

  • Aspirations/Career progression.
  • Understanding the role of governance.
  • Understanding accountability/roles in school/Subject Leadership/School-led system.
  • Celebration of achievements throughout the programme.
